This category 2 cyclone hit Noumea yesterday at 9 pm and I was ready for it. Anchoring in 12 meters of depth, I cleared the deck of everything that wasn’t firmly attached to it and cast a second anchor for extra insurance. During the night the wind gusted at 70 knots and attained sustained 55 knots. Many boats dragged anchor and some ended up stranded on the shore like the one above. Not a pretty sight.
Spalax 2 performed flawlessly and held its ground in the worst conditions throughout the night. Still, I had to keep watch at all times and didn’t get a wink of sleep.

And the sailing adventure continues. Check out my books at here.
